As some of you may already know, I've released all my tracks for free. There's a few reasons for that and I'll get to those in a minute. Meanwhile, I've been doing some field recordings and (surprisingly, after a few beers) came up with an idea which may be unfamiliar to those living abroad (my studio is currently located in my home country, Finland)
Ladies and Gentlemen, I present to you my latest invention, the saunasnare :

I won't go in-depth on how a sauna works but basically you throw water to a hot stove filled with rocks to generate steam. I managed to record that sound with rather pleasing results, and that layered with a snare and some white noise sounded awesome (at least in my opinion)
An intriguing conversation in a finnish Facebook-group targeted at electronic dance music producers followed soon after and a new genre, the saunahouse, was invented. There are some other silly ideas I've brought into life (such as getting your hands wet when making a clap sound)
Anyway, the saunasnare (with layering) can be downloaded here for all your snare needs (feel free to use it). The original sound can be found here. The saunasnare fits nicely in the mix, too.. It may even be on par with the Pryda snare
And now to the subject of releasing my tracks for free..
First of all, I believe music should be free (EDIT : in the sense that it belongs to everyone, not just the ones that can afford it)
Secondly, I admit to using cracked software which makes me feel guilty.
Other reasons include never getting signed by a label and not finding my niche. I'm just trying to make the best music I can and there are so many genres to choose from. I've also been thinking of starting my own label though, but in this financial (and in a way also political and jurisdictional) situation it's nearly impossible.
Well, at least I have something to remember and laugh at when I'm old.. and I can honestly say that I wasn't in it for the money (I've made some 20€ in record sales plus some donations from my parents and my brother)
Hope this clears things up!
PLUR (it never gets old) <3,
-ef
EDIT : Thanks to Tommi S. for coining the term saunahouse
